Our story is both simple and not but for the sake of time (yours and mine) this chapter started back in 2020 when the world shut down and I began seeing a therapist because my panic attacks were out of control. Many tools and sessions later my therapist recommended returning to something that brought me joy as a child and that led me back to crafts.
From this was born limoncitos, my second baby and spot of the brightest joy and transformation. All through grad school this little project brought me joy, stability, and a sense of peace and when I graduated I knew I wanted to incorporate arts & crafts into my work.
Overtime this led me to create larger community offerings centered on the intersections of wellness + creativity like fresh squeezed craft club and individual and corporate wellness workshops and well that brings us here to La Bodeguita. -
the why is simple: because creativity and wholeness in our birthright and we have been healing in creation and community for centuries. some of the oldest groups of humans would spend time and pass down skills through craft. Allowing for both conversation, communion, and wellness to occur through the building of trust in oneself and abilities through the act of creativity.
we are here to facilitate that to you in a space created to feel like your favorite cafe or bodega. Accessible, communal, and nourishing. -
a bodeguita means little store. I picked this because I loved the way it tied in with both the vision of the space and my ancestral roots. Bodegas started in Cuba but made their way here in the 30’s and 40’s as a space for migrants to be able to come together and have a space where they could find their comfort foods, sounds, and smells. They served as a microcosm of culture and connection providing a space for people who often felt they did not belong to belong.
That is my hope for this space. For people to come in and form deeper community and communion within themselves and with others.
